soon afterwards
14 September 2001 - 6:02 p.m.

Terror enfolds your city, my city is lost as well
A million miles separate us yet I hear your cry for help
I watch you as you sift through the rubble of what you once called home
I see you cry and I cry with you, let me hold you for a while
I wonder if I have the right to feel my heart breaking for your fate
I believe it is not your tragedy alone, it is humanities’ and my own

Soon afterwards . . .

I watch you as you stand there, fists clenched, holding back your grief
I haven’t prayed for some time now, but I’ve been praying for you for days

I will not pretend to know it all, much more know who to blame
But I would be lying if I didn't tell you that my heart is in pain
